Let's get honest here for a second; when was the last time you replaced your bra?
If you're like the majority of us, you're probably going to say that you last replaced your bra over six months ago. But you may not realise, if over six months is your answer, there's a good chance your bra has outworn its welcome.
Not many people know, but it is recommended that bras be replaced every six months if they're worn daily.
Why is this?
In short, it's due to the natural stretching and breaking down of fabrics and elastics in bras over time.
Are you not sure if it's the right time to bin the bra?
Check out our guide for five signs your bra needs to be replaced!
1. Underwire Issues
Every woman has experienced it: that uncomfortable feeling of the bra underwire poking into your skin.
You may have even tried to solve the problem by sewing the underwire back into place, but it's never a permanent fix.
One of the most obvious signs your bra needs replacing is if there are issues with the underwire. If your wire is poking out, is painfully digging into your skin, or has lost its shape, it's time to replace your bra.
2. Straps that slip or dig in
One of the most annoying things in this world is having to constantly adjust your bra straps.
If your straps constantly slip or dig into your shoulders, that means your straps are losing their elasticity, and it's a clear sign it's time for a change of bra.
3. Stretched Out Band
The back of a bra naturally stretches out over time, but the hook system on the back allows you to tighten it more when it starts to feel loose.
Once you're on the tightest hook and your bra still feels loose, it's a telltale sign you need a new one.
4. Poorly Fitting Cups
This might seem like an obvious one, however, if you start to notice the cups of your bra suddenly feel too big for your chest and there are gaps between the cup and your breast, this means your bra cups have stretched out.
If your cup is stretched, you're not receiving the same support you once were from the bra. You will also notice this because the bra won't sit flush against your skin and will appear more visible through your clothing.
5. Hair-Like Threads
Have you ever noticed those teeny tiny hair-like threads appearing on your bra strap or cups? If so, it's time to bin the bra.
These tiny hair-like fibres mean the elastic is breaking and wearing away in your bra, which is effectively what holds it together and gives your bra support.
If you've just realised it's time for a new bra, it's recommended that you get your bra size measured professionally every six to twelve months.
Breasts are always changing, and even if you don't notice a change, studies indicate that up to 85% of women are wearing bras that don't properly fit them.
The good news is that we offer a free bra fitting service in-store, with no appointment necessary for standard fittings. Our expert fitters are on hand Monday to Saturday to help you find the perfect fit.
