Year on year, McElhinneys bring the magic of Christmas to the North-West of Ireland with their amazing Christmas window unveiling, and 2017 was no exception. The beautiful windows this year, created by the amazing team in store, had a ‘Nutcracker’ theme by Tchaikovsky, and every window told the story.
This year the event took place on the 19th of November – drawing in a huge crowd of locals, non-locals and online spectators who kept up with the fun online through the hashtag #McElhinneysMagic.
The entire town of Ballybofey came to a standstill all day Sunday, as huge crowds dawned the streets to watch the entertainment, meet Santa, enjoy the mulled wine and – of course – participate in some retail therapy.

Paul Logue kept the crowd excited during the build up to the main event, the Christmas window unveiling itself, and introduced all the amazing entertainment organised to keep the crowd spellbound until the windows were unveiled – including fire dancers, a brass band, a children’s choir, and the wonderful ZoNa dance company, who later graced the window and brought it to life through ballet and movement.
Eilish Kennedy and the whole team at McElhinneys brought together a fabulous mixture of fashion, art, music, culture and the festive spirit! McElhinneys also partnered with a number of people to bring this Christmas window to life, including the ZoNa Dance Company, JC Bonnar from the Butt Theatre for creative input, the LYIT Fashion Department, and of course the Twin Towns Chamber of Commerce – which allowed all the Christmas lights in town to be turned on simultaneously!
We can't wait until next year already!
