Jeans are such a statement piece in all our wardrobes; This is an exciting time for fashion and the denim revival is well and truly upon us. This season we will be introduced to different trends. It is an exciting time to shake up your wardrobe and try out some new styles and cuts of denim.
The current look has moved away from hugging the silhouette to a relaxed voluminous look. This has ignited a fresh much-needed diversity to jean trends, giving fashion lovers more opportunities to express their style and suit their body type. I will cover all the upcoming trends this season and how to wear them.
The Slouchy Jean
This season baggy is best. The slouchy jean/boyfriend jean is incredibly wearable for all body shapes. With a relaxed fit, they can be worn with hoodies and trainers for daytime but can be dressed up with a strappy sandal and fitted jacket for night. The Vero Moda Cuba Slouchy High Waist Ankle Grazers are bang on trend with a high-rise elasticated waist & slouchy style.
These are one of my faves as a petite gal, I love the fitted elasticated waistband as it really cinches in your waist. The lighter wash is ideal teamed with neutral knits and will effortlessly take you through to the next season.
The Barrell Jean
Slightly cropped at the ankle, high on the waist and loose-fitting around the legs for a more flattering look. The barrel fit gives an even ratio from hip to the ankle which is perfect for elongating the legs. These jeans have a relaxed look so by changing a few key pieces can transition from day to night. It’s important to balance them out with something feminine like a cropped tailored jacket and statement heels for the night, for a daytime look add chunky boots or trainers paired with a cropped thin knit. Keep the top cropped to waist length to avoid being drowned in fabric. I’m loving these Wrangler High Rise Barrel Leg Jeans in this darker denim it makes them a little dressier perfect work or an evening dinner look.
The Flare Jean
The traditional flare is a daunting prospect to many of us but is back on the catwalks and has started to filter into the world of celebrities this summer. There are many variations of the flares, cropped, bell bottoms, high rise/low rise waist, and wide leg. This is the biggest trend in jeans this season and it isn’t going anywhere.
The White Stuff flare mid-rise jeans have a vintage denim wash and a high waistline that creates a super-flattering and ultra-wearable silhouette. I love the pocket details on the back and the exaggerated hem. I would pair these with a chunky heeled boot and a tucked-in t-shirt/ turtleneck for a casual look. Add a statement top in a textured fabric like lace or silk for a chic look, off the shoulder looks amazing or why not pair with a vintage shirt to really make a statement.
The Straight Leg
The 90s revival is still going strong, the straight leg is such a 90’s jean. Vintage-inspired, high-waisted straight-leg jeans are everywhere.
I love these paired with a vintage look t-shirt and shearling jacket. The Levi’s® Ribcage straight ankle women’s jeans are perfection! I love the wash of the denim especially for a double denim look, with a high-rise waist, these are the ultimate hip slimming, waist-defining, and leg-lengthening jean. Because of the extra volume in the leg, keep tops more fitted. I would wear with a think knit black turtleneck and chunky belt, loafers, and a waist-length blazer, the perfect smart casual look.
The Slim Leg
These are a great transition jean from the skinny, these have a looser fit but really taper in at the bottom to give a skinny effect. This is a more wearable denim in terms of comfort. These are a great day look and can be worn with trainers and boots. They can even be turned up for that ankle grazer look. These Wrangler sandy slim leg jeans are such a nice transition from the skinny, a more relaxed fit and this wash is a more laid-back chic look.
The Mom
Mom jeans suit many different shapes but really suit curvy girls, giving that hourglass shape. They are really versatile in how to style them and work well for both casual and evening looks. For a casual look, pair your mom jeans with a tank top, button-down blouse or a chunky cardigan and to dress up for evening, simply layer a statement t-shirt or a black Cami with a biker style black jacket and some killer heels. These are also fab with a statement blazer to really give that vintage vibe. Tommy Jeans Women’s High Waist Mom Jeans is the perfect mom jean that will suit all shapes.
The Dad
The ultimate Dad jean is Levi’s 501s these remind us of the days when things were built to last and are such a classic jean.
Their quality and longevity has made this jean a constant favourite for 148 years. They are at the forefront of reinvention, adaptation and have continued to rebuild their denim for the modern shopper. However, some things don’t need change like these timeless jeans. With a vintage-inspired fit with a straight leg and modern cropped style. Keep it classic with a crisp white shirt and nude heels. For an edgier look pair with a vintage t-shirt, docs, and black leather jacket.
The Bootcut Jean
This style sometimes gets a bad rap as an unfashionable cut but they are a huge trend this season. This style has been reinvented, the bootcut of 2021 features a figure-flattering high waist, the flare is subtle making this new style an easier look to pull off. The perfect jean to transition your wardrobe into the baggier flared styles. Bootcut jeans are the ultimate cut for when you're in between styles and want an all-around good pair of jeans. These Wrangler slim fit bootcut are right on the money. They look super sleek and pair well with heeled ankle boots, so really, what's not to love? Pair with a round or V-neck in flowy materials like lace, silk, and cotton. Tops that hit just below your waist help balance out the shape of the jeans. You can also opt for tops that are cropped and flowy if you are wearing bootcut jeans that are high-waisted.
When it comes to denim trends, some are easier to wear than others but there is a fit for everybody. A good start is finding a trend that works for your body shape and deciding how you'll style it. There is a huge number of options out there and many jeans incorporate a few styles in one which is perfect for anyone that is scared to try out some different styles.
Some of us have a bad opinion of baggier styles but the new designs are constructed to meet the needs of the modern shopper. There is so much effort constructing these jeans thinking of every body type using new design techniques and movable fabric to lift, sculpt and flatten.
